How to use

  1. Enter a title and your spelling words, one per line.
  2. Choose how many letters to hide, and whether to keep the first or last letter.

Data & method notes

For each word the tool picks blank positions at random from the allowed (unprotected) letters, so regenerating gives a fresh challenge from the same list. Punctuation is never blanked. See the methodology page.

Teaching tip: keeping the first letter visible makes worksheets noticeably easier for early learners.

Frequently asked questions

How many letters can I hide per word?

As many as you like, up to the number of letters available. If you protect the first and last letters, only the middle letters can be blanked.

Yes. Protecting the first and/or last letter is a common way to make the worksheet easier for younger learners.

Do I get an answer key?

Yes. The full answers are generated alongside the worksheet, and the print layout keeps the two separate.
