Frequently asked questions

What can I use random words for?

Plenty: writing prompts and creative-writing warm-ups, vocabulary and spelling practice, Pictionary and charades, brainstorming names, or picking a word of the day.

Can I get only nouns, verbs or adjectives?

Yes. Pick a part of speech and the generator draws only from that category.

Are the words suitable for children?

Turn on “Easy words only” for a short, common, kid-friendly set. The full list is already filtered to remove offensive or unsafe words — see the sources page.

Why did I get fewer words than I asked for?

When duplicates are off and your filters are strict, there may not be enough matching words. Loosen a filter or allow duplicates to reach the count you want.
