Common questions

How many two-letter words are there?
Our dictionary contains 96 two-letter words. It is built from ENABLE, the public-domain lexicon most word games use, so it covers far more than everyday vocabulary — see the sources page for details.
What are the most common two-letter words?
Ranked by how often they appear in written English, the most common are: of, to, in, is, on, by, it, or. The full "most common" list is near the top of this page.
What is the highest-scoring two-letter word in Scrabble?
ax scores 9 points on plain tiles, before any double- or triple-word squares. Premium squares and the 50-point bingo bonus can change the ranking completely.
Are proper nouns and abbreviations included?
No. The list only contains words from the ENABLE lexicon, which excludes proper nouns, abbreviations and hyphenated forms — the same rule tournament Scrabble and most word games follow. Read more on the methodology page.
